Global Citizenship, Picture News and Assemblies

We have a detailed termly Collective Worship Plan:

At Christ Church we believe that cultural development within our curriculum is crucial. It lays the foundation for children's understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures, fostering inclusivity and empathy from a young age. By exposing pupils to various traditions, languages, and perspectives, we can help them build a broader worldview and cultivate respect for differences. This early engagement not only enriches their educational experience but also equips them with the social skills necessary to thrive in a multicultural society. We strive to nurture open-minded, compassionate individuals who are better prepared to contribute positively to an increasingly interconnected world.

We view our school as our own 'mini-world' as we have so many different cultures represented and over 30 different languages spoken by our school community! We celebrate our diversity in so many different ways throughout our curriculum and through our enhancements. We are respectful,  tolerant and accepting in all that we do here at Christ Church. We believe every child is unique and special.

Please see the calendar of events that we will celebrate throughout the 2024-2025 academic year. This calendar includes assemblies, unity days and topics that we will be discussing throughout the academic year. These events ensure that we are making our children aware of national and international celebrations, teaching elements of the SMSC curriculum and for children to showcase what they have been learning about in their topic and PSHE lessons.

Our curriculum drivers: A sense of belonging, Oracy, Respect, Resilience and Aspiration are as key part of our assembly calendar as well as promoting our British Values.

Assembly Calendar

Weekly Picture News

At Christ Church, Collective Worship and Friday assemblies are a vital part of our school life - they help us to communicate our school Christian vision and values. PSHE is central to our assemblies and we also practice embrace fundamental British Values. Through our collective worship, children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural curiosity is stimulated, challenged and nurtured.

Every Monday we have a whole school song worship in the school hall with a focus linked to either our termly theme or a key event in the Christian Church calendar e.g. Easter/Christmas. Tuesday worship is teacher led, Wednesday is led by Head Teachers or visitors and Thursday is led by clergy.

Every Friday we celebrate the achievements of our children in our celebration assembly. There is the chance to win many different awards such as Maths Monkey and Speller of the Week!

On Fridays we also include a key focus linked to local, national and global events/ issues - often using the weekly resource, Picture News.

Throughout the year, assemblies might be planned and delivered by the Senior Leaders or by School Representatives (such as School Council, Worship Leaders or Eco Warriors).

We also invite visitors to come in and lead assemblies, including visitors from the local Churches, Christ Church; local business owners/ employees; Emergency Services; authors; artists; musicians etc.
