At Christ Church we love to read and firmly believe that it is key to a child’s future success. For this reason, and for the love of books, we aim to run an exciting reading event across school each term

 Writing a Book Review

Our librarians and Year 6 keen readers would like to recommend these book review templates for you to use at home.

You can see some book reviews on display around our library - do bring yours in too!

Our Library!

In our school we are keen to encourage children to use our library facility. We have a comprehensive library with fiction and non?fiction books. Children are encouraged to borrow books to take home for short periods of time. The library lending is organised by trained Year Six children. Alongside this, classes are able to use texts from the library to enhance their topic work.

Read Aloud Texts

The following texts have been carefully selected for each year group to enjoy during story time each day. The books often link to children’s writing outcomes supporting the development of language and grammatical skills. Teachers read aloud these texts promoting a love of reading across fiction, non-fiction and poetry genres. This is not an exhaustive list, however the books selected are protected for specific year groups to ensure progression. Teachers may dip in and out of non-fiction and read extracts that are interesting to children during story time. Suggested accompanying texts are listed on the writing long term plans for teachers to also draw upon.
